A two-time winner and current defending champion of the Ironman Europe title, Timo Bracht has been one of the world’s most prolific Ironman triathletes over the last decade. The 34-year-old has won Ironman races in Florida, South Africa, France and Germany, setting several course records along the way.
Bracht, who lives in Eberbach, Germany, partnered with Giant at the start of the 2009 season. Riding a prototype version of a cutting-edge triathlon and TT bike that would become the 2010 Giant Trinity Advanced SL, Bracht had his best season yet last year.
Bracht races for the Germany-based Commerzbank Triathlon team and this year is once again focusing on the sport’s biggest prizes. With two titles at the Ironman Europe Championships in Frankfurt, Germany, on his list of accomplishments, Bracht says this year he is gunning for the sport’s grandest prize, Ironman Hawaii. He has been a consistent threat at the race, collecting five top-15 finishes in Kona.
“The [2010] season may be the most important of my life,” Bracht says. “I have two huge tasks. To defend my title in Frankfurt, I have to beat the best triathletes in the world. Everything will have to be right there. And in the furnace-like heat of Hawaii, only the toughest survive too. But I love pushing myself to the limit and know that I belong on the podium in Hawaii.”
